Frequently asked questions
Is this course suitable if I don’t know much about cyber security?
Yes. This is an introductory course that starts with familiar parts of running a business, such as bookings, customer records and email lists. You don’t need to be a technology expert to begin. It’s a practical starting point if you want to protect your customers’ information but feel unsure where to start.
Is this relevant if I’m a sole trader or run a very small business?
Yes. Even a small business can hold information that matters to its customers, including names, contact details and booking records. If people trust you with their information, this course is relevant to you. It will help you give that information more attention as part of your everyday business routines.
I only keep customer names and contact details. Does this still matter?
Yes. Names, phone numbers and email addresses are still personal information worth protecting. You don’t need to hold payment details or extensive customer files for this course to be useful. If you take bookings, keep a customer list or collect mailing list sign-ups, the examples connect directly to your business.
I use a booking app or email platform. Isn’t security already taken care of?
The platform’s security is one part of protecting customer information. How you and your staff collect, access and share that information matters too. This course is useful if you’ve started using digital tools and want a clearer understanding of your part in keeping customer details safe.
